FORT BONIFACIO, Metro Manila- The Mechanized Infantry Division (MID) of the Philippine Army celebrated its 12th activation anniversary this year with the theme: “Kaagapay ng Sambayanan Tungo sa Kapayapaan at Kaunlaran” yesterday, September 20, 2018 at Camp O’Donnell, Capas, Tarlac.

The glorious past of MID traces its roots from the Katipunan Army transitioned from horse cavalry to mounted warriors and since then, it evolved and have been an integral part of Army operations in quelling various threats such as armed secessionism, communist insurgency, and transnational terrorism.

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, graced the occasion as the Guest of Honor and Speaker. He also led the conferment of awards to soldiers and civilian stakeholders who have been instrumental to the accomplishment of the command’s mission.

Duterte personally offered a special salute to the mounted soldiers who courageously offered their lives particularly in the five-month long battle when ISIS inspired terrorists laid siege of Marawi City last year.

In his message, the President said that the notable accomplishments of the Division, being a dependable force and defender of the democratic institution made the Filipinos feel safer in these challenging times. “Your dedication and shared responsibility is the legacy that we can hand-over to our children in order for them to achieve their ideals and aspirations for the betterment of our country.”

Further, the President also conveyed to the troops that under the 2nd Horizon of the Armed Forces of the Philippines Modernization Program, five projects worth 13 billion pesos will directly benefit the Mechanized Infantry Division.

Lt. Gen. Rolando Joselito D. Bautista, Army Commanding General, on the other hand said that, “amidst various security concerns, our Army forces all over the country remain steadfast, motivated and responsive to the changing needs. Our allegiance to the flag and nation is solid-rock and we will continue to serve as protector and servant of the Filipino people.”

“Moreover, with the current Philippine Army modernization we had gone a long way. Our soldiers and equipment had transformed into a more credible and modern force, at par with other armed forces in the region.” he added.#
