Army holds Signal Family Conference and Technology Day

FORT BONIFACIO, Metro Manila- The Philippine Army recently held a two-day Signal Family Conference and Technology Day at Philippine Army Officer Clubhouse on Friday, November 16, 2018. The activity is in line with the celebration of the 83rd founding anniversary of the Armed Forces of the Philippines Signal Corps with the theme, “Army Signal Corps: Transcending from its Traditional Command and Control Communications, and Cyber System Role in the Philippine Army.”

Prior to the event, consultation and visitation activities were conducted to different Army major units which aim to determine and evaluate significant C4S issues and concerns.

Generally, the objectives of this year’s PA Signal Family activities are to validate the level of compliance on various C4S policies and directives, validate the efficiency on the utilization of resources and, convey relevant information for the development and use of C4S equipment and services of the Command.

The commencement of the Signal Family Conference was graced by the newly appointed Chief of Staff of the Army, Brigadier General Jose C. Faustino, together with Col. Milton Y. Beset, the Acting Assistant Chief of Staff for C4S, G6. The primary participants of said conference were the G6s of Army major units, Commanding Officers and Sergeant Majors of Signal Battalions.

Subject Matter Experts/Resource Persons were also invited from the Office of the Deputy for Chief of Staff for CEIS, J6, CEISSAFP, Philippine Navy, Philippine Air Force, Army Personnel Management Center and HPA General Staff. Series of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) lectures and demonstration reinforced the conduct of the activity.

The yearly event was highlighted by the ICT exhibit/display participated by various ICT partner companies, foreign and local. Col. Vener Odillon D. Mariano, the Commander, Army Signal Regiment (ASR) enthusiastically steered the Technology Day exhibit purposely to showcase and keep everyone abreast on the latest trends of information and communication technology.

In the culmination, Col. Virgilio B, Bartolome, Commander, Headquarters and Headquarters Support Group who stood as keynote speaker in behalf of the Commanding General, Lt. Gen. Macairog S. Alberto said that, “this event is timely and relevant because of the fast changing and complex operational environment which is very much influenced and driven by technology. This is indeed a good venue to capacitate our personnel especially those who are at the cutting edge of managing the Army’s C4s.”

“The Signal family worthy endeavor is commendable and I am truly thankful for the support of our stakeholders, including both, local and foreign exhibitors. I strongly believe that our partnership will help strengthen, develop and institutionalize the Army’s combined arms capabilities,” he added.

The Army Signal Corps as specialized enablers, over the years have effectively and efficiently transformed its capabilities to meet the demand of Army-wide unit’s tactical operations requirements on Command and Control Communications, and Cyber Support (C4S) for counter insurgency, terrorism and territorial defense of the country.

Moreover, it aims to continuously be adept and responsive by forging partnership for capability upgrade as well as training activities in pursuit of accomplishing its mandate with excellence and in consonance to the organization’s goal of becoming a world class Army by 2028. ###
