Army conducts coastal clean-up, kicks-off its 122nd anniversary celebration

FORT BONIFACIO, Metro Manila – The Philippine Army conducts a coastal clean-up in Manila Bay Friday, March 1, 2019 to kick-off the month-long celebration of its 122nd anniversary.

Maj. Gen. Rizaldo B. Limoso, Vice Commander, Philippine Army, with Mr. Ignacio R. Almira, Assistant Regional Director, Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), led the coastal clean-up at the Las Piñas-Parañaque Critical Habitat and Ecotourism Area (LPPCHEA) located at the south of Manila Bay.

In partnership with the DENR, 1,163 active and reserve personnel from the Philippine Army came to participate in the clean-up of LPPACHEA which is a 175 hectare of wetland ecosystem. It is a critical habitat that serves a vital role in the survival of threatened, restricted-range and congregatory bird species.

The Philippine Navy, Philippine Air Force, Maynilad, San Miguel Corporation, City Environment Natural Resources Office (Parañaque and Las Piñas), Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, CAVITEx, and National Capital Region Police, also showed their support for the coastal-clean up drive.

“I would like to thank everyone for joining us today for our coastal clean-up activity. This morning, the various sectors of our society shared effort in bringing back our country’s coastline to good health,” said Maj. Gen. Limoso.

The coastal clean-up is part of the Army wide Simultaneous Clean-up Drive involving other Army major units across the country, partnering with the DENR to conduct clean-up activities in their respective areas of responsibility.

Among the other areas that benefitted from this activity were Aurora, Tabuk City, Isabela, Zamboanga, Tagum City, Mati City, Davao City, General Santos City, Sarangani, Davao Occidental and Davao Del Sur.

“The Philippine Army is committed not only to defend and serve our country, But also contribute to its progress, which includes a clean and healthy environment for us and the next generation,” Limoso added.

The Army opted to conduct this activity in support to the government’s campaign to help preserve and protect the environment which has a huge impact in the nation’s quest to promote sustainable national development.#
