Army installs new 2ID Commander

FORT BONIFACIO, Metro Manila – The Philippine Army installs a new commander of the 2nd Infantry “Jungle Fighter” Division (2ID) at Camp Gen. Mateo Capinpin, Tanay, Rizal, July 12.

Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Macairog S. Alberto presided the turnover of the command symbol from the outgoing Brig. Gen. Jose E. Escarcha to incoming Brig. Gen. Arnulfo Marcelo B. Burgos Jr.

Burgos served as the commander of the 202nd Infantry "Unifier" Brigade of the 2ID prior to assuming command of the division. He also served as the Army Chief Public Affairs and Armed Forces of the Philippines spokesperson. He also commanded the Army's Civil – Military Operations Group and was designated as the Assistant Chief of Staff for Civil - Military Operations, G7, Philippine Army.

Aside from being a Philippine Military Academy “Maringal” class of 1988 graduate, he also holds a Master’s Degree in Business Economics from the University of Asia and the Pacific. He completed various military trainings abroad such as the Psychological Operations Course in Fort Bragg North Carolina; Counter Terrorism at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterrey California; and the Comprehensive Crisis Management Course at Asia Pacific Center for Security Studies in Honolulu, Hawaii. Burgos also accomplished a Senior Executive Course on National Security from the Department of National Defense and a Command and General Staff Course from Training and Doctrine Command, Philippine Army.

Burgos is a recipient of numerous medals and commendations: two Outstanding Achievement Medals, four Distinguished Service Stars, two Meritorious Achievement Medals, a Distinguished Service Medal; Gawad sa Kaunlaran, a Bronze Cross Medal, 18 Military Merit Medals; 5 Commendation Medals; and many other plaques of recognition and certificates of appreciation. Under his leadership, the 202nd Brigade was awarded as the Best Infantry Brigade in Southern Tagalog and Infantry Brigade of the Year in Southern Luzon for two consecutive years.
