FORT BONIFACIO, Metro Manila – The Philippine Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Macairog S. Alberto dons rank to battle wounded soldiers today, September 6, 2019, at Army General Hospital (AGH).

The four soldiers were promoted one rank higher in recognition of their bravery after obtaining severe injuries during their operations early this year.

Allutang Jr., 22, who lost one of their legs are currently receiving physical therapy and monitoring in preparation to their high-end prosthesis provided by the Armed Forces of the Philippines. On the other hand, Cpl. Muqtadir P. Sampulna, 27, was paralyzed when an enemy’s bullet hit his spinal cord. Sampulna is also undergoing treatments in hopes to regain his lower body movement.

According to AGH Commanding Officer Col. Raul F. Nufuar, beside the physical rehabilitation, the soldiers were also given counseling sessions to help them overcome their traumatic experience.

The soldiers also expressed their desire to continue their service in the Army despite of what happened. “Kasama ito sa sinumpaan namin [bilang mga sundalo]...ang maglingkod para sa bayan,” said Quezada who wishes to go back in the battlefield once he receives his prosthesis and training.

“Our soldiers’ lives are always at risk and the command wants to give importance to the bravery of these men not just by providing them medical assistance. These ranks serve as a recognition to their sacrifices in protecting the people and securing the land,” said Army Spokesperson Lt. Col. Ramon P. Zagala.#
