29th ASEAN Armies Rifle Meet opens

FORT BONIFACIO, Metro Manila – The 29th ASEAN Armies Rifle Meet (AARM) hosted this year by the Indonesian Armed Forces was officially opened at Camp Pusdikif, Bandung, West Java last November 20.

The Philippine Army Shooting Team sent 34 delegates to participate in the AARM which will run from Nov. 21 to 24.
The opening ceremony was led by Lt. Gen. Tatang Sulaiman, Indonesian Deputy Chief of Army. The AARM flag was hoisted to mark the beginning of the competition.

After the opening ceremony, the PA Vice Commander Maj. Gen. Reynaldo M. Aquino met with the country's contingent to express the command’s support as they compete to bring home medals in one of Southeast Asia’s most prestigious shooting competition. “Maintain the highest degree of discipline and your drive to win in all the events,” Aquino added.

Held simultaneously with the ASEAN Chiefs of Armies Multilateral Meeting (ACAMM) and the ASEAN Army Sergeant Majors Annual Meeting (ASMAM), the AARM is an annual shooting competition among the armies of the member states of the Association of the Southeast Asian Nations. It aims to bring the armies together to foster friendship and camaraderie.

“The Philippine Army supports AARM as well as ACAMM and ASMAM as it brings us closer to our counterparts in ASEAN. These serve as a platform where we are able to discuss cooperation as well as exchange information to ensure peace in the region. The command has its full support for our shooters who continuously strive to be world- class shooters,” said Lt. Gen. Macairog S. Alberto, PA Commanding General.#
