The Philippine Army loaded the initial consolidated relief goods from private donors to the Philippine Navy's BRP Tarlac bound for Cebu province on December 28 at Pier 1, South Harbor, Manila.
The Philippine Army loaded 13 truckloads of canned goods, rice, water, and other essential supplies from Headquarters Philippine Army in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig to Pier 13 in South Harbor, Manila. Philippine Navy landing dock BRP Tarlac (LD-601). The navy vessel will leave for Cebu today, December 29, to transport the relief goods.
The supplies will be turned over to the Provincial Government of Cebu for distribution to the affected residents in the province.
Meanwhile, Army units in the Visayas, North and Eastern Mindanao have been assisting local government units in clearing and relief efforts in communities battered by Odette, the strongest and most destructive tropical cyclone to hit the country this year. Army units based in areas not directly affected by Odette are focused on consolidating and transporting essential items from private donors.
Army Chief Lt. Gen. Romeo Brawner, Jr., lauded the troops' efforts in helping typhoon-stricken communities. He directed all units to comply with the President's directive to use available resources to support relief and rehabilitation efforts in areas devastated by the typhoon.
"The Philippine Army is committed to working with our partners to reach out and help families affected by the typhoon. The spirit of "Bayanihan" remains very much alive as we help our typhoon-stricken countrymen get back on their feet," Lt. Gen. Brawner said.
"Rest assured, the Philippine Army—together with national government agencies, local government units, and other partners—are working round the clock to ease the suffering of typhoon-afflicted families and help them return to their normal lives," the CGPA remarked.
The Philippine Army's donation drive continues as more private donors are sending their donations for the Typhoon-affected residents. #
