FORT BONIFACIO, Metro Manila – The Commanding General, Philippine Army (CGPA) Lt. Gen. Romeo S. Brawner, Jr. lauded the heroism of soldiers, partner agencies, and volunteers involved in humanitarian assistance and disaster response efforts for typhoon-stricken families during the commemoration of the 125th anniversary of Jose Rizal's martyrdom today, December 30, in Baguio City.
Baguio-born Lt. Gen. Brawner Jr. served as the Guest of Honor and Speaker in the commemoration of Rizal Day at the Rizal Shrine in Baguio City. Together with Vice Mayor Faustino Olowan, he led the wreath-laying rite in honor of the country's national hero.
"In this time of pandemic and our efforts to alleviate the plight of those affected by Typhoon Odette, let us acknowledge the Rizal-like personalities of our modern day heroes — our soldiers, healthcare workers, and other frontliners who continuously toil day and night to ensure the safety, survival, and continuing development of the country," Lt. Gen. Brawner stressed.
"Thus, I encourage our troopers and our fellow countrymen to be like Dr. Jose Rizal. His love for God, our country, and our people serve as an ideal that all freedom-loving Filipinos must emulate. Let us, therefore, ignite our Bayanihan Spirit through cooperation and collaboration with each other towards a better nation," the CGPA remarked.
The Philippine Army, together with national government agencies, local government units, and other partners, are working 'round the clock to ease the suffering of typhoon-afflicted families and help them return to their normal lives. #
