8th Infantry Division continues humanitarian assistance efforts for typhoon victims in Southern Leyte

The Army’s 8th Infantry Division are continuing its humanitarian assistance operations for typhoon-stricken families more than two weeks after Typhoon “Odette” lashed Southern Leyte.
The Army’s 802nd Infantry Brigade and 93rd Infantry Battalion have joined hands with SM Foundation Operation Tulong Express and SM Cares to help typhoon-stricken families in San Juan, Southern Leyte on Decemeber 28. Meanwhile, 8ID troops also assisted in the hauling and delivery of 100 tons of essential supplies donated by San Miguel Corporation for typhoon victims in Southern Leyte. Philippine Navy ship BRP Bacolod City (LS-550) transported the 100-ton shipment from Sangley Point, Cavite to Maasin City Port.
8ID troops also partnered with the Regional Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict in distributing 400 boxes of DSWD hygiene kits for typhoon-stricken families in various towns of Southern Leyte.
The Army’s 43rd Infantry Battalion at 546th Engineers Construction Battalion also delivered relief supplies from Allen Port, Northern Samar to Southern Leyte on December 29. 8ID also deployed carpentry teams to help residents build back their homes damaged by “Odette” in the towns of Bontoc and Sogod in Southern Leyte.
Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Romeo S. Brawner has directed Army units to deploy available resources and manpower to assist in humanitarian assistance efforts for victims of Odette, the strongest and most destructive tropical cyclone to affect the country in 2021.
Philippine Army sent separate 14 truckloads of essential supplies to Cebu and another 21 truckloads of relief supplies to Southern Leyte and Surigao del Norte last week. Army units nationwide —in coordination with the national agencies and local government units —are holding relentless relief and rehabilitation efforts to help ease the suffering and give hope to typhoon victims. #
