Two Abu Sayyaf members yield in Sulu

Relentless implementation of Community Support Program by Army Special Forces troops resulted in the voluntary surrender of two Abu Sayyaf members in Upper Sinumaan, Talipao, Sulu on Jan. 1, 2022.
1101st Infantry Brigade Commander Brig. Gen. Eugenio Boquio received the surrenderers identified as 66-years-old Sibakkal “Tuan Mawang” Salahuddin and 49-year-old Isbain “Isbaen” Sakilan.
Elements from the 6th Special Forces Company of the 2nd Special Forces Battalion are conducting Community Support Programs (CSP) in Barangay Upper Sinumaan to enable a conducive environment favorable to government forces. CSP denies the enemy of critical resources and isolates them from mass support, hitting critical vulnerabilities that empower the enemy’s capabilities.
Army troops neutralized in 2021 a total of 34 Local Terrorist Group (LTG) members who are part of Abu Sayyaf and allied groups, Dawlah Islamiyah, and Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF). Of these, 20 surrendered, 5 were captured, and 9 were killed in legitimate operations.
Meanwhile, Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Romeo S. Brawner, Jr. lauded Special Forces in Sulu for their operational gains against threat groups over the past year. The CGPA also called on remaining threat group members to lay down their arms and rejoin society as he warned those who will continue down their path to face the full force of the Army.
“Lay down your arms and return to the comfort of your families and loved ones. The government has programs to help you rebuild your lives,” the CGPA remarked.
