PA steps up Covid-19 booster drive

The Philippine Army is ramping up its booster vaccination drive amid the surging Covid-19 infections fueled by the highly transmissible Omicron variant.
The Philippine Army administered a total of 2,662 booster shots to soldiers and their dependents as of January 7, 2022. The figure includes the 440 booster jabs administered to healthcare workers at various Army medical treament facilities.
A fully vaccinated individual becomes eligible for a booster shot at least three months after getting inoculated with the second dose, per guidance of the Department of Health.
"In view of the Covid resurgence and the waning immunity afforded by earlier doses, these booster shots will provide an additional layer of protection to our healthcare workers, soldiers and their dependents," Army General Hospital Commanding Officer Col. Dalaguit said. She added that the AGH is aiming to administer booster shots to all soldiers and their dependents, especially senior citizens.
Meanwhile, Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Romeo S. Brawner, Jr. directed troops to strictly comply with health protocols to curb the spread of coronavirus in Army camps and offices. To manage the Covid resurgence, the Office of the Army Chief Surgeon has also ordered strict adherence to minimum health standards, continued vaccination efforts, and preparation of medical facilities and healthcare personnel.
The Army Operations Center listed 140 active Covid cases as of today, January 7, which include 30 officers and 110 enlisted personnel.
