Troops from the Philippine Army’s 62nd Infantry Battalion (62IB) under the 3rd Infantry Division neutralized CPP-NPA Terrorists (CNTs) and rescued a minor combatant in an encounter in Sitio Manlibod, Barangay Sandayao, Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental on Saturday, January 15, 2022.
62IB troops foiled the planned extortion and relief effort disruption of CNTs believed to be part of Central Negros 1, Komiteng Rehiyon – Negros, Cebu, Bohol, Siquijor (KR-NCBS). The five-minute firefight resulted in the death of one (1) enemy, wounding two (2) others, rescued a minor combatant, recovery of several war materials, and subversive documents. After which, troops promptly transported the two wounded CNTs to the Guihulngan City District Hospital for medication and turned over the rescued minor to DSWD for proper disposition.
Lt. Gen. Romeo S. Brawner, Jr., Commanding General, Philippine Army condemned the CNT’s continued manipulation and exploitation of minors which is a blatant violation of International Humanitarian Law.
