Philippine Navy (PN) Chief of Naval Staff Rear Admiral Caesar Bernard Valencia turned over on Friday, January 21, 2022, PN’s P1.83 million worth of cash assistance for the families and survivors of the July 2021 Sulu C-130 crash tragedy.
Chief of Staff, Philippine Army (CSPA) Maj. Gen. Roberto Capulong received the donation from Rear Admiral Valencia after an arrival ceremony held at the Headquarters Philippine Army, Fort Bonifacio, Metro Manila. The donation is from the pooled one-day worth of mess allowance of PN personnel nationwide.
It can be recalled that on July 4, 2021, a C-130 Hercules flew from Cagayan de Oro City to transport newly trained soldiers from Army 's 4th Infantry Division to Sulu to bolster the military’s campaign against Abu Sayyaf bandits in the south. The plane crashed after a landing attempt, resulting in the death of 38 Army troops and injuring 46 others.
“Today’s ceremony once again proves that the Armed Forces of the Philippines lives up to its virtues of unity and camaraderie. Our common desire to be always of service to the Filipino people transcends our differences in terms of our mandate and areas of responsibility,“ the CSPA remarked.
“This donation will go a long way in providing medical assistance to the survivors and financial assistance to the dependents of our fallen heroes,“ Maj. Gen. Capulong added.
