53IB recovers high-powered CNT firearms

The Army’s 53rd Infantry Battalion recovered high-powered firearms from communists-terrorists operating in the hinterlands of Dumingag, Zamboanga del Sur and Sergio Osmena, Zamboanga del Norte on November 18, 2021.
Operating troops seized an M16A1 rifle, one short magazine for M16A1 rifle, eighteen rounds of 5.56mm live ammunition, personal belongings, assorted medical paraphernalia, and one portable burner after the 30-minute gunfight. They have launched pursuit operations against CNTs who fled following the encounter.
Meanwhile, newly installed AFP Chief of Staff and concurrent Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Andres C. Centino reiterated his guidance to defeat threat groups before the June 2022 deadline set by the Commander-in-Chief.
“The enemy is on the brink of irreversible defeat, let us not forego this opportunity. This is our responsibility and no one is in a better position to do this but us,” Lt. Gen. Centino said in his recent virtual meeting with battalion commanders.
