Injured CNT surrenders to Army troops in South Cotabato

An injured CPP-NPA Terrorist (CNT) voluntarily surrendered and turned over a high-powered firearm to the Army's 11th Special Forces Company, 5th Special Forces Battalion (5SFBn) and local government authorities in Barangay Edwards, T’Boli, South Cotabato on January 31, 2022.
The surrenderer, identified as Ricky Lumbay alias Jeric, recounted how his comrades abandoned him wounded after their encounter with government forces on January 5, 2022. Aside from receiving medical and financial help from the T’Boli municipal government, Lumbay will receive assistance under the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program, the national government’s program for rebel returnees.
Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Romeo S. Brawner, Jr., lauded 5SFBn troops for facilitating the voluntary surrender of Lumbay. He also recognized the vital role of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict which institutionalized a “whole of nation” approach in eradicating insurgency.
