The Philippine Army (PA) installed its 19th Command Sergeant Major through an Installation Ceremony on February 4, 2022, at the Headquarters Philippine Army, Fort Bonifacio, Metro Manila.
Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Romeo S. Brawner, Jr., turned over the Office of the Army Sergeant Major’s (OASM) symbol to Chief Master Sergeant (CMS) Rogelio P. Caacbay. Before his assumption, CMS Caacbay served as the acting PA sergeant major and concurrent OASM transition adviser from April 2021 to February 2022.
The Sergeant Major is the personal staff of the Army Commanding General mandated to professionalize the Enlisted Personnel Corps while addressing the morale, welfare, and discipline of the troops.
“Rest assured that I shall lift up the Office of the Army Sergeant Major motto of discipline, morale, and welfare to fully assist and support the Philippine Army guided by the command guidance and strategic vision of our Commanding General,” CMS Caacbay said. The new Sergeant Major challenged the Non-Commissioned Officers (NCO) Corps, the “Philippine Army’s backbone,” to be the best coaches and mentors to their subordinate personnel.
Meanwhile, Lt. Gen. Brawner vowed to pursue the professionalization of the Army’s NCO Corps. “With a professional NCO Corps, we will be able to achieve our vision of truly becoming a world-class Army by 2028,” the CGPA said in his remarks.
