Armed Forces of the Philippines Center for Law of Armed Conflict (AFPCLOAC) Director Brig. Gen. Joel Alejandro S. Nacnac renders a courtesy call on Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Romeo S. Brawner, Jr., today at the Headquarters Philippine Army, Fort Bonifacio, Metro Manila.
Lt. Gen. Brawner and Brig. Gen. Nacnac discussed the possible holding of brigade-level workshops or conferences on laws governing armed conflict that will be facilitated by state prosecutors. One of their discussions is the need to reach out to state prosecutors in pursuing charges of human rights violations against the Communist-Terrorist Group (CTG).
The two generals also tackled the universality of human rights which also cover government security forces who are tasked to defend the land and maintain peace and order.
The military, through the AFPCLOAC, recorded a total of 1,506 International Humanitarian Law violations allegedly committed by the CTG from 2010 to 2020. These atrocities include the utilization of 544 children as combatants, 532 incidents of destruction of civilian-owned property, and 141 incidents involving the use of Anti-Personnel Mines.
