Army athletes win big in sporting events

Philippine Army athletes bagged medals in recently concluded running, duathlon, and chess competitions, the Special Service Center (SSC) of the Installation Management Command announced on February 14, 2022.
The Army Athletics Team registered a “one-two” finish in the 21-kilometer road run race in DRT, Bulacan on February 12, 2022. Staff Sergeant Alley C. Quisay and teammate Staff Sergeant Andrico S. Mahulim emerged as champion and second place respectively on the said category.
The Army Athletics Team also extended its back-to-back winning streak in the trails as Staff Sergeant Mahilum was held champion in the 12k Trail Run, while Corporal Rowell G. Hulleza in the 6-kilometer off-road race.
Meanwhile, Staff Sergeant Allan P. Racines, of the Philippine Army Triathlon Team, earned a bridesmaid finish in the FEB-Ibig Duathlon (31 to 35 years old male category) in Lipa City, Batangas on February 13, 2022.
Army woodpushers also qualified for the national selection for the Southeast Asia Games Grand Finals at the Philippine Academy for Chess Excellence in Quezon City from February 10 to 13, 2022.
Private First Class Janelle Mae Frayna (Woman Grandmaster) emerged as the champion in both the Rapid Women and Blitz Women categories while her teammate Sergeant Darwin Laylo earned the silver medal in the Rapid Men category and bronze in the Blitz Men category.
SSC Director Colonel John Oliver F. Gabun commended soldier-athletes for excelling in their chosen fields. He likewise vowed to provide support and opportunities to every soldier athlete to further enhance their skills and talents in line with the command guidance "SERVE" of Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Romeo S. Brawner, Jr.
SSC is the Army’s primary unit tasked to conduct the Physical Fitness Test aimed at ensuring the physical fitness and readiness of every soldier.
