Operating troops of the Army's 53rd Infantry Battalion (53IB), 1st Infantry Division unearthed a food cache of CPP-NPA Terrorists (CNTs) buried at the hinterlands of Sitio Lanayan, Barangay Gasa in the municipality of Lakewood, Zamboanga del Sur.
The capture of the food cache was a result of the revelation of recently-surrendered former commander of the defunct Guerilla Front KARA, alias “Marlon.”
Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Romeo S. Brawner, Jr., lauded 53IB troops for capturing the food cache which will hamper the CNTs’ capability to launch attacks and spoil the peace in communities during the election season.
