Two Daulah Islamiyah-Maute Group (DI-MG) members surrendered and turned over high-powered firearms to the 51st Infantry Battalion, 1st Infantry Division’s headquarters in Piñan, Zamboanga del Norte on February 28, 2022.
The surrenders, identified as alias Abu Muktar and Abu Muslim, both 21 years old, surrendered one M16A1 and one Carbine M2. 51IB attributed their surrender to the community information drive conducted by government forces in far-flung barangays in the province.
Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Romeo S. Brawner, Jr., lauded 51IB troops for facilitating the surrender of the two DI-MG members. He has committed to push down ample resources to ground units nationwide to bolster their mission effectiveness.
