Philippine Army sends off 236 officer candidates

The Philippine Army sent off the latest batch of the Officer Candidate Course (OCC) and Officer Candidate Course-Reserve Officer Training Corps (OCC-ROTC) composing 236 officer candidates on March 9, 2022, at the Philippine Army Grandstand, Fort Bonifacio, Metro Manila.

A total of 214 officer candidates will compose the OCC Class 57-2022 and will undergo the OCC for one year, while 22 officer candidates who are part of the OCC-ROTC Class 02-2022 will undergo the OCC-ROTC for eight months. They will train at the Army's Officer Candidate School of Training and Doctrine Command in Camp O'Donnell, Capas, Tarlac.

The officer candidates come from all over the country. They have diverse academic backgrounds such as engineering, public administration, education, and criminology. They will undergo rigid training that will develop their physical, mental, and leadership capabilities.

Army Personnel Management Center (APMC) Director Col. Patrick B. De Villa, who graced the oath-taking and send-off rites, enjoined the candidates to persevere in their chosen path to become future Army officers.

“Embrace the hardships and use the challenges you will have to surpass to develop honor, patriotism, and sense of duty within yourselves,” Col. De Villa remarked. “Know that your military training will be the foundation to your journey towards a successful career in the Force. As always, remember the very reason why you enter the organization—and that is service,” he added.
