Army athletes rule international, local events

Army athletes asserted their dominance anew in recently concluded international and local sporting events the Special Service Center (SSC) of the Installation Management Command announced on March 27, 2022.

Sergeant Jovelyn Gonzaga emerged as champion in the Australian Beach Volleyball Tour (Women's Challenger Division) while her teammate Private First Class Nerissa Bautista placed third in the said event held at Coolangatta Beach in Queensland, Australia.

Meanwhile, the Philippine Army Wrestling Team under head coach Staff Sergeant Jerry Angana bagged six gold medals in the 1st Quarter National Open Wrestling Championship at the Victoria Sports Club in Quezon City: Sergeant Michael Cater in the 57 kgs Greco Roman; Sergeant Noel Norada in the 65 kgs Greco Roman; Corporal Ronel Tubog in the 61 kgs Men's Freestyle; Corporal Bemayla Bernas in the 60 kgs Women's Freestyle; Private First Class Smael Trazona in the 125 kgs Men's Freestyle; and Private First Class Excel Tubog in the 72 kgs Men's Freestyle.

In racket sports, Sergeant Vicente Anasta and Private Jeson Patrombon of the Philippine Army Lawn Tennis Team emerged as champions in both Men's Singles and Men's Doubles Category of the MJFC Men's National Open Tennis Tournament held in Digos City, Davao Del Sur.

Lastly, Staff Sergeant Andrico Mahilum bagged the bronze medal in the Asia Altitude Obstacle Course Race World Series held on Mount Pulag in Benguet.

Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Romeo S. Brawner, Jr., lauded Army athletes for bringing glory not just to the organization but to the country as well. The Army Chief has vowed to provide ample resources and support to SSC, the home of Army champions.
