he Philippine Army received a transport plane that will boost the capabilities of the Army Aviation Regiment and the Special Forces Regiment (Airborne) in the deed of donation signing and turnover ceremony at the Royal Star Aviation Hangar, Domestic Airport, General Aviation, Pasay City on April 1, 2022.
The Department of National Defense (DND) USec. Cardozo M. Luna and Consunji family [donor] representative Mr. Siddhartha C. Reyes, Royal Star Aviation Inc. assistant manager, signed the Shorts Bros and Harland SD3-30 Sherpa Aircraft deed of donation witnessed by AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Andres C. Centino, Army Vice Commander Maj. Gen. Henry M. Doyaoen, Army Aviation Regiment Commander Col. Andre B. Santos, and SFR(A) Acting Commander Eliglen F. Villaflor.
“Donating the Sherpa aircraft is the most attainable means in developing the aviation force of the Philippine Army, aside from procurement,” USec. Luna said. He added that the donation will bolster the Army Aviation Regiment’s thrust to develop and enhance its operational capability.
The twin-engine, turbo-propeller plane will be the latest addition to the Army Aviation Regiment’s air assets. The plane can be used to support combat and non-combat missions of the Philippine Army.
Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Romeo S. Brawner, Jr., has committed to acquiring additional assets to bolster the Army Aviation Regiment’s capability to fulfill a multitude of ground-support missions. The regiment is also conducting a wide range of training exercises among its personnel to enhance their skills and further capacitate the unit.
