The Philippine Army troops and their U.S. Army Pacific (USARPAC) counterparts shared lessons on recognizing and protecting themselves from all types of improvised explosive devices during the four-day Counter-Improvised Explosive Device (C-IED) combined interoperability exercise that concluded on April 1, 2022 in Fort Magsaysay, Nueva Ecija.
The exercise is among the eight Philippine Army-U.S. Army Pacific combined interoperability drills that cover a wide range of military operations.
Personnel from the Philippine Army’s 1st Brigade Combat Team and the Army Support Command’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal Battalion and USARPAC’s Asia Pacific C-IED Center, G34 Protection Directorate facilitated the lessons on identifying and defeating insurgent IED tactics, techniques and procedures.
Around 8,900 Filipino and American servicemen are participating in the 12-day Balikatan, an annual bilateral exercise aimed at strengthening interoperability between Philippine and US armed forces and improving both militaries’ readiness to respond to security threats and crises.
