Team Army dominated the AFP Match Phase of the Chief of Staff Challenge 2024, a shooting competition sanctioned by the Philippine Shooters and Match Officers Confederation, being held from January 24 to 28, 2024 at the Philippine Military Academy Firing Range in Fort Del Pilar, Baguio City.
Team Army ruled the Team vs Team General and the Overall General bannered by the victories of Army Vice Commander Maj. Gen. Leodevic B. Guinid in the Single Stock Division General Category and TRADOC Commander Maj. Gen. Rex Luis D. Bergante in the Double Action/Striker Fire Division General Category. First Scout Ranger Regiment (FSRR) Commander Brig. Gen. Isagani O. Criste finished second runner-up in the DASF General Category while Army Artillery Regiment (AAR) Commander Brig. Gen. Francis Anthony M. Coronel snagged the second runner-up award in the RU Stock Hicap General Category.
Meanwhile, TSg. Willard B. Carrera emerged as champion in the Overall DASF category while Army Vice Comander Maj. Gen. Leodevic B. Guinid and Cpt. Sherwin WS Guidangen placed first runner-up and fifth runner-up respectively in the same category.
The competition will have two events, the AFP Match for active military personnel only which was held from January 24 to 25, and the Main Match, which is open to military and civilian shooters from January 26 to 28.
The shootfest aims to benefit wounded and sick soldiers in the AFP Health Service Command, support scholarship for military orphans, and improve the PMA Firing Range. The Opening Ceremony and Ceremonial Shoot was graced by Secretary Teng Mangudadatu, TESDA Director General, as the Guest of Honor and Speaker.
