FORT BONIFACIO, Metro Manila – The Philippine Army on Thursday, March 19, 2020, provided assistance to actress Bela Padilla in the repacking, transporting, and distribution of relief goods to COVID-19 crisis hit individuals.
After Padilla raised a sum of 3.3 million pesos to fund a humanitarian assistance program for the affected individuals of the Luzon wide Enhanced Community Quarantine, said actress coordinated with the PA to fast track the distribution.
Through the Army Headquarters and Headquarters Support group, four Army vehicles and around 10 military personnel assisted the actress in repacking the goods at Landers Otis branch Manila. Goods was then distributed to the target beneficiaries such as the homeless, street vendors, elderly, persons with disability, children, commuters, Caritas Manila as well as jeepney, pedicab and tricycle drivers around Metro Manila areas. Additional donations of assorted goods for the soldiers assigned at checkpoints were received by Col. Patricio Ruben Amata, the Assistant Chief of Staff for Civil Military Operations, G7.
“The Philippine Army appreciates the initiative of Bela Padilla in reaching out to the persons who need assistance while Luzon is under ECQ. We are grateful that she enjoined the Philippine Army in serving these people. In this time of crisis, we really need to work together regardless of our professions in order to serve our kababayans,” said Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Gilbert I. Gapay.
