FORT BONIFACIO, Metro Manila - The Commanding General, Philippine Army congratulated the soldiers of the 1st Infantry “Tabak” Division after they repelled the attack of Communist Terrorists Groups (CTGs) while conducting COVID-19 operation on Wednesday, April 1, 2020 at Barangay Balagon, Siay, Zambaonga Sibugay.
Following the community visitation of the unit’s effort for COVID-19 information awareness, 10 enlisted personnel were harassed by a number of armed rebels believed to be combined members of CTGs from Front Flex A and Front 13. Troops retaliated leading to a 20-minute firefight. Encounter resulted to the death of one enemy and recovery of two M16A1 Elisco rifles, medical paraphernalia, and other personal belongings.
All other units conducting similar activities related to the prevention of COVID-19 were reminded to be extra vigilant in order to pre-empt similar incident imposed by the CTGs.
“Remain vigilant and alert against our enemies who does not respect our humanitarian mission. To the operating troops of 1ID, I commend your good leadership and teamwork that repelled the rebel groups from inflicting harm to the people,” said Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Gilbert I. Gapay.#
