CGPA commends 44IB, 6SFBn operations against ASG

FORT BONIFACIO, Metro Manila – The Commanding General, Philippine Army commends the troops of the 44th Infantry Battalion and 6th Special Forces Battalion in their successful operations against the Abu Sayyaf Group here today, April 7, 2020.

On April 4, troops of the 6th Special Forces Battalion neutralized three ASG members during an encounter at Barangay Kaunayan, Patikul, Sulu. While scouring on the seized ASG lair, the 6SFBn were able to recover one 90RR with one 90RR HEAT ammunition, six M203 rounds, suspected IED components, one cellphone, and other enemy belongings.

While on April 1, one squad of Community Support Program team of the 44IB fought against ASG members at Barangay Balagon, Siay, Zamboanga Sibugay Province. Fire fight against said rebels resulted to the death of one enemy and recovery of two M16A1 Rifles, medical paraphernalia, and belongings.

Said rebel groups have been inflicting harm and violence to the people in Mindanao region through various activities like kidnap for ransom, bombing, and harassment.
