FORT BONIFACIO, Metro Manila – The Chiefs of the Army (CA) of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) participated in a virtual conference here on July 9, 2020.
Lt. Gen. Gilbert I. Gapay, Chief of the Philippine Army, joined nine counterparts in a conference hosted by Brig. Gen. Dato Seri Pahlawan Awang Khairul Hamed bin Awang Haji Lampoh, Commander of the Royal Brunei Land Forces. The participating CAs discussed their experiences in addressing COVID-19 in their respective countries.
The other participants were Gen. Hun Manet, Commander, Royal Cambodian Army; Gen. Andika Perkasa, Chief of Staff, Indonesian Army; Maj. Gen. Chanthong Soneta-ath, Deputy Chief, General Staff Department, Lao People’s Army; Gen. Datuk Wira Zamrose bin Mohd Zain, Chief, Malaysian Army; Vice Senior Gen. Soe Win, Deputy Commander-in-Chief, Defense Services, Tatmadaw and Commander-in-Chief, Myanmar Army; Maj. Gen. Goh Si Hou, Chief, Singapore Army; Gen. Apirat Kongsompong, Commander-in-Chief, Royal Thai Army; and Lt. Gen. Nguyen Van Nghia, Deputy Chief, General Staff, Vietnam People’s Army.
“I would like to thank Brig. Gen. Dato Khairul for graciously hosting this virtual conference and bringing together the Chief of Army in the ASEAN region. I would also like to thank my fellow Chief of Army for sharing with everybody your best practices in addressing and coping with the pandemic. I am confident that together, we will come out of this challenge a stronger ASEAN,” said Gapay in his remarks. #
