Philippines, South Korea armies bolster military ties

FORT BONIFACIO, Metro Manila – Over a telephone meeting last August 19, the top leaders of the Philippine Army (PA) and the Republic of Korea Army (ROKA) committed to boost military cooperation.

PA Commanding General Lt. Gen. Cirilito E. Sobeja extended his gratitude to ROKA Chief of Staff Gen. Suh Wook for accepting PA’s proposal to establish an Army Working Group with ROKA through a signing of the Terms of Reference, which will be done during counterpart visits once the travel situation gets better.

According to Sobejana, the commitment will significantly help the expansion of the Army-to-Army cooperation and relationship between the two armies. Suh Wook also looks forward to discuss the details of PA and ROKA’s engagements in the future.

Recalling the 70th anniversary commemoration of the Korean War, Suh Wook noted that the Philippines’s support in achieving freedom and peace in the Korean Peninsula will never be forgotten. Sobejana said that the PA is very proud of its involvement in the war assured them the same commitment as the armies move forward in making the region a better place to live.

“The Philippine Army is thankful to the ROKA for allowing us to discuss matters of mutual interests despite the limitations due to COVID-19. The PA and the ROKA are continuously learning from each other in addressing both the current challenges of the pandemic as well as the peace and security concerns in the region,” said Sobejana.#
