FORT BONIFACIO, Metro Manila – The Philippine Army designates a new Sergeant Major in a Change of Chief of Office Ceremony here today, October 28, 2020.
The Commanding General, Philippine Army Lt. Gen. Cirilito E. Sobejana presided the turnover of the Office of the Army Sergeant Major’s (OASM) office symbol from First Chief Master Sergeant Aladin S. Dacayanan to Chief Master Sergeant Ricky S. Leono.
The OASM, a personal staff to the Army Commanding General, is mandated to professionalize the Enlisted Personnel Corps while addressing the morale, welfare and discipline of the troops.
Prior to his assumption, CMS Leono served as the Army’s Assistant Command Sergeant Major and as 602nd Infantry Brigade Sergeant Major.
On the other hand, FCMS Dacayanan served as the 20th Army Sergeant Major since August 2019. During his stint, the office conducted programs which provided platforms for the soldier-leaders to improve their leadership skills such as Sergeant Major Consultative Meeting, Senior Enlisted Leaders Forum, and Troop Information and Education. He previously served as the Command Sergeant Major of Intelligence Service, Armed Forces of the Philippines (ISAFP). He will continue his service as the new AFP Sergeant Major.
“A world-class Army to be potent is tempered by discipline and professionalism. This is why the Philippine Army continues to instill these virtues in its men and women. And our NCOs, especially the sergeant majors, play the crucial role to ensure that this endeavor is sustained,” said Lt. Gen. Sobejana.
“To CMS Dacayanan and CMS Leono, congratulations and God speed! And to our men and women, give your full support and dedication to serve with our new Army Sergeant Major. Maintain your resolve and passion for happiness and productivity,” he added. #
