FORT BONIFACIO, Metro Manila – Forty students of the Philippine Army Sergeant Major Course (PA SMC) paid a courtesy call to the Philippine Army Chief of Staff Maj. Gen. Jesus B. Sarsagat here today, August 27, 2019.
The delegation was headed by Chief Master Sergeant Robert B. Wanawan, the Commandant of Non-Commissioned Officer School (NCOS), Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC). The visit is part of an educational tour which aims to familiarize the students with the capabilities and operations of the Army.
The PA SMC will develop the students' communication, leadership and management skills, and develop their ability to conduct military decision-making process which will ultimately prepare them as they assume the position of Sergeant Major or its equivalent in the tactical or operational level of command.
This program is a senior level Army NCO course and is a capstone of the Army Enlisted Personnel Ladderized Leadership Training and Educational Development.
After the courtesy call, the students were given a command briefing on the Army’s organizational capability and operational doctrines, major thrust and programs, support system and sustainment capability, and its planned capability.
Aligned with the thrust of the command to make an agile force prepared to address current and future challenges, it provides the necessary trainings for all its members in all levels of the organization.
“The Army Sergeants Major play an important role as the link between the officers and its enlisted personnel to ensure that their needs on morale and welfare are addressed. Thus we make sure that they are empowered and ready to take on higher responsibilities through the conduct of development trainings such as this,” Lt. Col. Ramon Zagala, the Army spokesperson said.#
