Army shelters stranded airline passengers

FORT BONIFACIO, Metro Manila - The Philippine Army provided temporary accommodations to stranded passengers awaiting their flights, today, June 13, 2020.

In coordination with the Pasay City Police and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, a total of 128 stranded individuals were transported from Ninoy Aquino International Airport to the Philippine Army Wellness Center, where they underwent rapid testing and medical protocols facilitated by the Army General Hospital (AGH) before occupying the sleeping areas within the gymnasium.

In March, the 2nd Infantry "Jungle Fighter" Division provided transportation assistance to stranded students of University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) after its administration reached out to the Army after classes were suspended due to the government lockdown. Also in May, the 7th Infantry "Kaugnay" Division transported UPLB students back to their respective homes. The Army also provided free transportation for authorized persons outside residence in Metro Manila during the enhanced community quarantine.

"Upon the direction of President Duterte and as part of our COVID-19 response, we extend the appropriate assistance to stranded workers who wanted to be with their families but are unable to do so because of limited public transportation. We will provide them with shelter and other basic necessities until their flights become available," said the Commanding General Philippine Army, Lt. Gen. Gilbert I. Gapay. #
