Philippine Army hosts observance of National Heroes Day

FORT BONIFACIO, Metro Manila – The Philippine Army hosted the observance of National Heroes Day at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Libingan ng Mga Bayani today, August 30, 2021.
President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, Guest of Honor and Speaker, delivered his message through video. “With pride and joy, we honor the noble sacrifices of our ancestors who fought to liberate our country and establish the thriving democracy that we have today. As we overcome the COVID19 pandemic, let us honor our modern-day heroes, our medical front liners, and our essential workers who sacrificed [their] lives, comfort, and security to secure our fellow Filipinos,” he said.
Representing the President was Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea who led the flag-raising and wreath-laying ceremonies as well as the opening of an exhibit called “Mukha ng Kabayanihan sa Ikalawang Digmaang Pandaigdig” that features Filipino heroes and their contributions during World War II.
The Philippine Army honors the country’s forbearers who bravely fought for independence and the present-day Filipino heroes who risked their lives for the peace and safety of the nation.
“May we all learn from the valiant examples of the past and present heroes and build on them to achieve a stronger future for all,” added President Duterte.#
