Philippine Army deploys K-9 units for search and retrieval efforts for Leyte landslide victims

The Philippine Army’s K-9 units and engineers continued to assist in the search, rescue and retrieval efforts for landslide victims in Baybay City, Leyte on April 17, 2022.
 
Army K-9 units, hand in hand with local policemen and Mines and Geosciences Bureau personnel, held an area survey and assessment at Barangay Katangos, Baybay City, one of the areas hit by massive landslides during the onslaught of tropical cyclone “Agaton” last week.
 
The 3rd K-9 Company of the K-9 Battalion and Army engineers have been assisting in search, rescue and retrieval efforts for landslide victims in various areas in Baybay City. Army troops have also been deployed to inaccessible areas in the barangays of Bunga, Mailhi, Cal-ipa to search and retrieve bodies that were buried by landslides or were swept by floods during the onslaught of “Agaton.”
 
The Philippine Army K-9 Battalion has numerous working dogs for combat tracking and explosive detection. The working dogs are also used extensively as scout dogs.
