Army Athletics Team win big in 2022 national athletics tilt

The Philippine Army (PA) Athletics Team showed its dominance anew after bagging 13 medals in the 2022 Philippine National Open Athletics Championships held at the Philsports Complex (ULTRA) in Pasig City from April 28 to 29, 2022.
The PA Athletics Team bagged three gold medals, six silver medals, and four bronze medals bannered by the first place finishes of Pvt. Marylyn A. Avila in the 400-meter Hurdles Open (women’s category); SSg. Rodrigo Tañuan in the 100-meter Dash Master’s Men (40 to 44 years old category); and Sgt. Ariel D. Opiana in the 400-meter Dash Master’s Men (35 to 39 years old category).
Meanwhile, five Army athletes won six silver medals in various categories: Pvt. Jelly Dianne C. Paragile bagged two silver medals in the 100-meter Hurdles (women’s category) and 100-meter Dash Open (women’s category); Sgt. Leomar B. Mirasol in the 100-meter Dash Masters Men (40 to 44 years old category); Cpl. Macrose M. Dichoso in the 5,000-meter Run Open (women’s category); Sgt. Opiana in the 200-meter Dash Masters (35 to 39 years old category); and Cpl. Jobert Carolino in the 400-meter Dash Masters (35 to 39 years old category).
Two Army athletes also bagged bronze medals in four categories: SSg. Narcisa M. Atienza in the Discuss Throw (women’s category) and Shot Put Open (women’s category); and SSg. Midel Q. Dique in the 200-meter Dash Masters Men (40 to 44 years old category) and 400-meter Dash Masters Men (40 to 44 years old category).
It can be recalled Army athletes also dominated a recently concluded trail run race in Tanay, Rizal last week.
Special Service Center (SSC) Director Col. John Oliver F. Gabun lauded the PA Athletics Team for their exemplary performance in this year's edition of the Philippine National Open Athletics Championships, the annual outdoor track and field competition organized by the Philippine Athletics Track and Field Association.
The SSC Director has vowed to provide ample support to each soldier athlete to further enhance their skills and talents in line with the "SERVE” command guidance of Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Romeo S. Brawner, Jr.
