The Philippine Army (PA) joined the ceremonial send-off and turnover of security forces who will render election duty at the Philippine National Police (PNP) Grandstand in Camp Crame, Quezon City on Wednesday, May 4, 2022.
Officials from Commission on Elections (Comelec), Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), Department of Education (DepEd) and PNP led the ceremony which was also done simultaneously in various Police Regional Office (PRO) headquarters nationwide.
The Comelec has deputized Soldiers, Policemen, and Coast Guard personnel to secure polling precincts and election paraphernalia on election day. Government security forces are mandated to provide security to COMELEC personnel, poll deputies, and other government personnel performing election-related duties. They are likewise tasked to ensure the availability of transportation assets, communications systems, and other equipment that could be used by the commission in conducting the elections.
Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Romeo S. Brawner, Jr., in his earlier guidance, has reminded Army troops of their two tasks in the coming polls: To practice the right of suffrage and to ensure the safe, orderly, and peaceful conduct of elections. The Army Chief has likewise directed troops to adhere to the military’s non-partisan stance and to refrain from liking, sharing, or posting political content on social media.
