Pakistani non-resident defense attaché Commodore Nasir Mahmood rendered a courtesy call on Commanding General, Philippine Army (CGPA) Lt. Gen. Romeo S. Brawner, Jr., at the Headquarters Philippine Army on Friday, May 6, 2022.
Commodore Mahmood, during the courtesy call, hailed the May 5, 2022 signing of the Philippine-Pakistan Memorandum of Understanding on Defense Cooperation by DND Sec. Delfin N. Lorenzana and Pakistan Ambassador to the Philippines Dr. Imtiaz A. Kazi which paves the way for bolstering the existing defense cooperation to new heights.
The Army Chief and Commodore Mahmood, who is based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, also discussed the possibility of conducting capacity-building measures such as bilateral training activities.
Lt. Gen. Brawner also opened up about how the Philippine Army can use Pakistan’s Self-Reliant Defense Program as a template in developing homegrown defense assets. With this, the PA can primarily focus on Research and Development as one of the areas of cooperation with the Pakistani Army. For his part, Commodore Mahmood expressed willingness to help the Philippines find Pakistani defense firms that could provide affordable and quality assets that would contribute to PA’s modernization thrust.
