Army readies contingency force for Metro Manila election

The Headquarters Philippine Army readied nearly 400 troops who are part of the 2022 national and local elections contingency or standby force on Friday, May 6, 2022 at the Headquarters Philippine Army Grandstand, Fort Bonifacio, Metro Manila.

The contingency force is composed of Civil Disturbance Management (CDM), K-9, Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD), Ambu-Medic, and Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) teams.

It can be recalled that the Philippine Army deployed a composite company to augment the Joint Task Force-NCR at the start of the election season on January 31, 2022.
Meanwhile, Philippine Army Major Units have also deployed nearly 4,000 soldiers as augmentation forces for the unified commands for the May 9, 2022 polls.

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has deputized soldiers, policemen, and coast guard personnel to secure polling precincts and election paraphernalia on May 9, 2022.

Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Romeo S. Brawner, Jr., in his earlier guidance, has reminded Army troops of their two tasks in the coming polls: To practice the right of suffrage and to ensure the safe, orderly, and peaceful conduct of elections.
