The Light Reaction Regiment (LRR), the Army's premier counter-terrorist unit, marked its 22nd founding anniversary in a ceremony presided by Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Romeo S. Brawner, Jr., at the regiment's headquarters in Fort Magsaysay, Nueva Ecija on May 11, 2022.
The anniversary celebration, which is anchored on the theme "Honoring the past, accelerating the transformation, and preparing for the future", shone the spotlight on the contributions of past LRR commanders and current force in modernizing and propelling the regiment to greater heights.
"LRR remains as a force that is profoundly feared by various threat groups from the northern frontier of Luzon down to farthest corners of Mindanao," the CGPA said. The Army Chief recounted how LRR troopers, known for the moniker "Tiradores de la Muerte" (Marksmen of Death), played a crucial in the military’s five-month campaign to defeat the ISIS-inspired terrorists that attacked Marawi City in 2017. He noted that from January to May 2022, LRR troopers neutralized 12 state enemies and captured four others without incurring any losses.
The Army Chief likewise lauded the LRR leadership for uplifting the morale and welfare of LRR troops through the comprehensive upgrade of the regiment’s facilities. Lt. Gen. Brawner likewise reiterated his command guidance SERVE that is anchored on the principles of servant leadership.
Lt. Gen. Brawner also emphasized that the last component of his command guidance will shift from focusing on election duty to pursuing excellence. "Maintain the highest standards of excellence as you are the Army’s premier counter-terrorism force. While doing so, I enjoin you all to focus on accomplishing your primordial mission of developing, organizing, training, equipping, supporting, and sustaining the Philippine Army’s light reaction forces not only for counter-terrorism operations but also for special operations, " Lt. Gen. Brawner said.
