Army dominates AFP Football Festival

Team Army emerged as the champion in the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Football Festival hosted by the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Reservist and Retiree Affairs (OJ9) at the Bonifacio Naval Station Parade Grounds, Fort Bonifacio, Metro Manila on May 14, 2022.

Team Army defeated Team Air Force in the championship match of the goodwill games geared at fostering sportsmanship and camaraderie among active and reserve members of AFP major service branches and other stakeholders.

Teams from AFP major branch of services, reserve units, Reserve Officers Training Cadets, and college students taking up other National Service Training Program components competed in the said sporting event.

The football competition is the first AFP-wide football tilt since the Covid-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of all sporting events in early 2020. The lowering to Level 1 of the Covid-19 alert status in many parts of the country has opened up opportunities for the resumption of contact sports.

Special Service Center Director Col. John Oliver F. Gabun lauded Team Army for dominating the AFP-wide football competition. “Kudos Team Army for dominating the recently concluded AFP Football Festival. May you continue to excel and bring pride not just to the Army but to the country as well,” the SSC chief said.
