Army band conductor holds graduation recital

Philippine Army (PA) Band Conductor Staff Sergeant Jay Lord Corpuz showcased his musical prowess in a three-piece graduation recital performance on May 20, 2022 at the Philippine Army Officers’ Club House, Fort Bonifacio, Metro Manila.

The recital is the final requirement for SSg.Corpuz’s professional music diploma at the United Kingdom’s London College of Music.

SSg. Corpuz led the band in performing his original composition “General Roberto S. Capulong March” followed by renditions of “Mars, the Bringer of War” and “Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity” which are both part of the orchestral suite consisting of seven short tone poems of English composer Gustav Holst.

The composite band of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine Coast Guard with guest singer Corporal Donna Demafelix also took part in the performance.

SSg. Corpuz, who became a musician at 12 years old, has received numerous accolades from the military and civilian sectors. He earned a Bachelor of Music Major in French Horn instrument from the University of Santo Tomas Conservatory of Music. He joined the Philippine Army in 2002 and honed his conducting skills while serving in the military.

Meanwhile, the PA Band is a distinguished military musical group that performs during the Army’s command ceremonies. The band gained a substantial online following for its “JAMdemic” series, a regular Facebook livestream featuring the band’s rendition of throwback and contemporary hits as well as original compositions.
