Philippine Army Lady Battalion fends off gritty Taguig Lady Generals

Philippine Army Lady Battalion inched closer to the Women’s National Basketball League finals after fending off gritty Taguig Lady Generals, 64-62, in their first semifinals match on May 29, 2022 at the Bren Z. Guiao, Convention Center, San Fernando City, Pampanga.
 
The Lady Battalion looked set to clinch an easy win after dominating the first three quarters but came flat down the stretch of the fourth quarter. The Lady Battalion, showcasing their never-say-die attitude, cemented their lead in the final minutes of the game, keeping the Lady Generals at bay.
 
The Lady Battalion needs one more win against the Lady Generals to advance to the finals series of the Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL). Private First Class Janine Pontejos, who chipped in 19 points for the Army squad, was hailed as the “Player of the Game.”
 
Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Romeo S. Brawner, Jr., lauded the Army Lady Battalion for demonstrating their basketball prowess. The Army Chief likewise encouraged the team to continue exert their best and sustain their winning momentum as the WNBL tournament reaches its season finale.
