Army HADR unit trains in collapsed structure search and rescue

A 21-member team from the Army's 525th Engineer Combat Battalion (525CB), 51st Engineer Brigade trained side-by-side with their counterparts from the Philippine Navy and Bureau of Fire Protection in a collapsed structure search and rescue (CSSR) drill hosted by the Makati Development Corp and Ayala Property Development Corp. Safety Group at the Arca South, Barangay Western Bicutan, Taguig on June 9, 2022.
 
During the conduct of the drill, a composite team responded to two collapsed structure scenarios at the Arca South Pie Compound saving a total of 66 trapped victims. The team also applied first aid treatment to 10 casualties to stabilized them before they will be transport to a nearest hospital.
 
The CSSR drill is geared at enhancing the responders’ CSSR knowledge and skills that are needed in stabilizing and extricating victims trapped in collapsed structures using the safest and most appropriate procedures.
 
The multi-agency CSSR drill is in line with the thrust of Army Commanding General Lt . Gen. Romeo S. Brawner, Jr., to enhance the individual skills of soldiers and unit capabilities. 525ECB is the Philippine Army’s primary humanitarian assistance and disaster response (HADR) unit that plays a crucial role in saving lives in the aftermath of natural calamities.
