The Philippine Army joined the simultaneous flag raising and wreath-laying ceremony to mark the 124th anniversary of the Philippine Independence at the Rizal Monument, Rizal Park, Manila on June 10, 2022.
This year's Independence Day celebration is anchored on the theme “Kalayaan 2022: Pag-suong sa Hamon Ng Panibagong Bukas (Rise Towards The Challenge Of A New Beginning)". The Filipino nation will mark this year’s Independence Day as the nation prepares to welcome a new set of leaders and as it gradually recovers from the Covid-19 pandemic.
Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Romeo S. Brawner, Jr., in a statement, said that the celebration of the Philippine Independence Day reminds soldiers of the Army’s core mission to serve the people and secure the land. “The Filipino people who clamored for the Katipuneros to fight for our independence look up to us today to keep on fighting not only to maintain our freedom but also to fight for stability and prosperity for our beloved country,” the Army Chief said.
”To the men and women of the Philippine Army, stand tall and be proud. If you see the Philippine Flag still waving, then that means you did your duty,” Lt. Gen. Brawner said.
