The Philippine Army commemorate the 124st Philippine Independence Day through a nationwide simultaneous flag ceremony highlighted by raising of the Philippine Flag at the Army’s main headquarters in Fort Bonifacio, Metro Manila on June 12, 2022
Philippine Army Major Units and their subordinate units took part in the ceremony by holding flag ceremony in their respective Army camps and installations nationwide.
“Sa ating pagdiriwang, nais kong alalahanin natin ang ating mga sundalong bayani na nagsakripisyo at lumaban para sa parehong bandila na bumalot sa kanilang katawan,” Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief of Staff Gen. Andres C. Centino's message in a speech read by Army Chief of Staff Maj. Gen. Roberto S. Capulong.
Meanwhile, Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Romeo S. Brawner, Jr., who was represented by Maj. Gen. Capulong in the Fort Bonifacio flag ceremony, called on troops to honor Filipino forbearers who paid the ultimate sacrifice to attain freedom from oppressors. “As we gather today to celebrate our country’s 124th year of independence, let us not forget those who gave up their lives so that others may live in peace and prosperity,” the Army Chief's remarks read by Maj. Gen. Capulong.
This year's Independence Day celebration is anchored on the theme “Kalayaan 2022: Pag-suong sa Hamon Ng Panibagong Bukas (Rise Towards The Challenge Of A New Beginning)". The Filipino nation will mark this year’s Independence Day as the country prepares to welcome a new set of leaders and as it gradually recovers from the Covid-19 pandemic.
