The Philippine Army, through the Office of the Army Chief Historian, conducted a virtual Military History Writing Seminar on July 12, 2022 at Headquarters Philippine Army, Fort Bonifacio, Metro Manila.
History Officers from Philippine Army Major Units and offices convened to join the seminar and learn about Historiography and Basic Military History writing from Mr. Ian Christopher Alfonso, the Supervising History Researcher and Officer-in-Charge - Research on the Publication and Heraldry Division, National Historical Commission of the Philippines. Said seminar aimed to equip the designated Army History Officers and develop comprehensive Philippine Army history data.
The Acting Chief of Staff, Philippine Army Maj. Gen. Roy M. Galido graced the closing ceremony of the seminar and highlighted every participant’s responsibility to preserve and enrich the history and heritage of the organization.
“Over time, there will be changes to the templates, guidelines, and policies in writing history. New trends, techniques, and tools will appear to aid us in the delivery of historical truths, but the vital duty of Military Historians remains constant. I urge you to research thoroughly, make use of primary and secondary sources properly, write your unit history with pride, and continue to advocate military history as it symbolizes our Army identity and culture,” said Maj. Gen. Galido during his inspirational speech.
