A Philippine Army team, in partnership with the GMA Kapuso Foundation, traveled more than 400 kilometers from Metro Manila to deliver three truckloads of essential supplies for quake-stricken families in Abra on July 29, 2022.
Personnel from the Civil-Military Operations Regiment, Army Support Command, Army Signal Regiment, and Headquarters and Headquarters Support Group, with the assistance of troops from the 24th Infantry Battalion, 7th Infantry Division, arrived in the towns of Tayum and Bucay in Abra, the epicenter of the magnitude-7 tremor that jolted Northern Luzon on the morning of July 27, 2022.
Army personnel also hauled 7,500 units of bottled water donated by the Universal Robina Corporation for quake victims in Abra, one of the provinces that bore the brunt of the destructive tremor.
Army units in Northern Luzon have stepped up their humanitarian assistance and disaster response efforts for quake victims in close coordination with various government agencies and non-government organizations. Likewise, Army reservists have been mobilized to assist in Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) operations in the Ilocos Region, Cordillera, and Cagayan Valley.
Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Romeo S. Brawner, Jr., commended Army troops, reservists and responders from other government agencies and the private sector for their selflessness and dedication to helping quake-stricken families in Northern Luzon. “Rest assured, your Philippine Army will continue to extend a helping hand to our kababayans up North,” the Army Chief remarked.
