Army reaffirms adherence to International Humanitarian Law

The Philippine Army reaffirmed its adherence to International Humanitarian Law (IHL) at the start of the month-long observance of IHL 2022 on August 1, 2022 at the Headquarters Philippine Army, Fort Bonifacio, Metro Manila.

The month-long observance of IHL is anchored on the theme “Upholding IHL as we recover from the pandemic: Bayanihan to Reduce the Suffering in Armed Conflict Toward Advancing the Gains of Peace and Reconciliation.”

Acting Army Vice Commander and concurrent Army Inspector General Maj. Gen. Roy M. Galido led the AFP Soldiers’ Pledge of Reaffirmation and Commitment and Support to the International Humanitarian Law through video teleconferencing.

“We will continue to protect and uphold the rights of the civilian population caught in the middle of armed conflicts, always mindful and respectful of their human rights as enshrined in International Humanitarian Law,” Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Romeo S. Brawner, Jr., said as he read the IHL observance speech of AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Andres C. Centino.

The Army Chief, in the speech, called on soldiers to uphold IHL in every campaign and operation. “In so doing, we affirm our values of honor, service and patriotism, and pledge to serve with integrity and professionalism at all times,” he added.
