Forum highlights need for enhanced Army reserve force

The Reserve Command, Philippine Army held its first-ever forum and fellowship for Luzon-based ready reserve unit commanders and elected reserve officers at Camp Riego De Dios, Tanza, Cavite on August 1, 2022.

National Security Adviser Dr. Clarita R. Carlos, who served as the event’s guest of honor and speaker, shared insights on the vital role of reservists in humanitarian assistance and disaster-response efforts and other nation-building initiatives.

The National Security Adviser, in her keynote address, discussed the attainment of national security anchored on human security principles. She likewise raised the idea of employing reservists at the barangay level, noting the crucial role of reservists and Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) cadets in the humanitarian assistance and disaster-response efforts for families affected by the magnitude-7 quake that shook Northern Luzon last week.

It can be noted that Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Romeo S. Brawner, Jr., in his previous speeches, has vowed to prioritize the development of well-capacitated, well-trained and well-organized Army reserve units that will act as effective force multipliers to regular troops.
